AVE battens down with Elation Sixbar 1000s

State Library NSW Elation sixbarSydney’s Audio Visual Events do exactly what their name says, and have been doing it well from St Leonards for 16 years. Priding themselves on meticulous attention to detail and the latest and greatest tech across all departments, they invested heavily in Elation Sixbar 1000 LED battens last year, adding 60 to their inventory. This purchase has proven to be a solid one, as they’ve just added another 40, rounding out to an even 100 in stock.

“We needed 100 to uplight the Mitchell Reading Room at the State Library of NSW,” explains AVE’s General Manager Paul Keating. “It was for an event celebrating the opening of their new galleries, and we needed to cover around 100 metres. The result was fantastic, and the team were appreciative of the inbuilt magnets that assist you to line them up perfectly end-to-end. I had no hesitation in adding another 40 to our stock because we’ve been able to use them as uplights, strip lights, and for pixel mapping, on a range of jobs.”

“They’re built really well, in a competitive market the build quality is clear to see” adds Senior Technician Jacob Nakhla. “While the quality of the build is the main selling point for me, they also have all features that we could ever want in a LED batten, including Art-Net for pixel mapping. Every accessory we need ships with them, and I’ve found the included frost filter very handy. It’s an RGBAW+UV fixture, and while I haven’t had the chance to use the UV yet, I’ve definitely been enjoying the white and amber. But most importantly, they’re extremely robust and I haven’t had a single problem with them.”

Paul has similar faith in the Elation Sixbar 1000s, choosing to put them out in front of demanding and influential crowds with big influence, including the 2018 Advertising Week APAC Conference, attended by advertising and media professionals, and the B&T Awards, the communications community’s awards night attended by brand marketers, advisors, and media owners.

“At Advertising Week’s Wrap Party, we used the Sixbar 1000s to create a pixel mapped DJ booth for electronic duo Peking Duk in Luna Park’s Big Top,” outlines Paul. “We pushed some simple content; the band name, colours, and words. We also used the Sixbars to create chevrons and eye candy on the truss uprights which brought the look together. At the B&T Awards, we achieved a simple but effective look for the afterparty. The Sixbar 1000s are really effective in creating great looks even on a budget-conscious gig.”

AVE’s Sixbar 1000s were supplied by Australia and New Zealand Elation distributor Lexair, who Paul describes as “easy to deal with, and always helpful. We like that fact that they have a relaxed sales process, and aren’t always chasing us when we’re out doing what we love, running shows!”
